The process starts with feeding polymer granules into a small single-screw, where the material is melted and homogenized under controlled conditions. The molten polymer is then passed through a flat T-die to form a uniform sheet with adjustable width and thickness. Downstream equipment such as chill rolls or a polishing stack is used to cool, smooth, and calibrate the sheet surface, ensuring good finish and dimensional stability.
Lab scale sheet extrusion machines are suitable for processing a wide range of thermoplastics such as PVC, HDPE, LD, PP, PS, ABS, PLA and specialty polymers. Due to their compact design, low material consumption, and easy parameter adjustment, they are ideal for material testing, quality evaluation, and training purposes. This system provides a reliable platform for simulating actual production conditions on a smaller, cost-effective scale.
lab scale sheet extrusion system includes an extruder screw diameter in the range of 20 to 30 mm with an L/D ratio of around 24:1 to 30:1. The output capacity generally varies from 3 to 15 kg per hour depending on material and formulation. The T-die width is usually between 150 and 300 mm, with sheet thickness adjustable from about 0.2 mm to 4.0 mm. Barrel heating is controlled through multiple temperature zones with PID controllers, and the drive motor power is commonly in the range of 3 to 7.5 kW. The line is designed for precise speed control and stable operation suitable for laboratory environments.
